Murray Slipp Thomson (1913-2003) diligently researched the descendants of Leonard Slip. His son-in-law David Allen used genealogy software to organize Murray’s findings. Here’s a photo I took of Murray and his wife Marion in their home in Saint John West, New Brunswick, on May 7, 1993.

Murray S. and Marion Thomson
It was a pleasure to meet Murray & Marion back in 1994 or so, when I did a little ‘genealogical trip’ into my line. And the journey was real, not virtual! During a vacation back home in Nova Scotia I went back through the various birthplaces of my family, in reverse order, Sackville, Moncton, Sussex, and ‘the Hampsteads’, with a stopover at Murray & Marion’s in Saint John prior to reaching the ‘homeland’, G.W. Slipp’s bicentennial farm in Central Hampstead .
Murray & I had communicated by mail prior to my meeting him. He always used “Murray S. Thomson, U.E.” to designate his ancestral roots linking to the United Empire Loyalist, Leonard Slip. I had never seen this before, and don’t recall seeing it used since, although my understanding is that anyone with Loyalist roots may apply it to their name.
I have photographs of my visit to Murray & Marion’s, but not currently in my possession. One of these days I hope to post some of them here. (Perhaps others have some memorabilia they could share here and expand this Post?) Is Marion (nee Wilson, of Moncton) still with us? She’d be 97 now, if so.
I think having a Post dedicated to Murray is a good idea, after all, he did assemble & ‘anchor’ our connection to Leonard Slip solidly and we all owe him a debt of gratitude, at the very least. I hope others might chime in with their recollections of him as well.
